I’m a morning person, always have been. I love waking up early and enjoying quiet and peaceful moments before the hustle and bustle of the day. But, I know a lot of people aren’t like me, and it can be hard to get out of the bed early.
The most important thing to do to start becoming more of a morning person is to start small. Every time you change something small you are getting closer and closer to jumping out of bed in the morning! Keep reading for my tips on how to become a morning person.
Don’t press snooze.
Just don’t do it. By pressing snooze you will actually end up feeling more groggy and will have a harder time starting your day.
Let the light in.
I know it can be hard to open those blinds in the morning to the bright sunlight, but it will actually help you wake up quicker. In fact, sleep with them open if you can, that way you can wake up with the sun and have the sunlight naturally help wake you. They also make alarm clocks that do this, pretty cool.
Drink lemon hot water.
Before your morning coffee or tea, it is important to hydrate. After all, you haven’t hydrated all night. Drinking hot lemon water, first in the morning can help balance your pH and kick-start your metabolism and digestion.
Avoid technology for 20 minutes.
When we first wake up it can be hard not to reach for our phone and start scrolling through social media. But I challenge you to take the time to enjoy the morning and put it on the back burner. Keep your mind uncluttered as you get ready.
Wake up at the same time.
This has to do with circadian rhythm. If you are sleeping in until noon on weekends it is going to be that much harder when your alarm goes off at 6 am Monday morning. Create a routine for yourself where you wake up at the same time every day, and soon your body will naturally get up.
Meditate.
I’m sure you have heard before about meditation, and there’s a reason why. It’s great for clearing your mind, making you more present and getting rid of brain fog. Taking 5-10 minutes in the morning can help you start the day on a clear note so you can conquer your day.
Diffuse.
Notes like mint and lemon are refreshing in the morning and great for waking up the senses. They are also great for stimulating a tired mind and boosting mood. I like these blends.
Protein for breakfast.
Getting a good serving of protein in the morning can help fuel your day and keep you full. Overly processed foods, sugar, and saturated fat will just make you feel sluggish and gross. Reach for a smoothie, organic eggs or add almond butter to your oatmeal.
Treat Yourself.
If you have something to look forward to in the morning, you will be more likely to enjoy getting up early. Make yourself a nice breakfast, take a hot shower, a nice cup of coffee (after your lemon water of course) or whatever you enjoy. The point is to take time to experience your morning doing things that you love.
