10 Healthy Filling Foods that Help you Lose Weight

I am going to share with you some healthy filling foods to eat well and help to lose weight! It can be difficult to eat start eating healthy and lose weight. You feel hungry which leads to hangry and well, that’s just not a pretty picture. But eating healthy doesn’t have to mean going hungry.

Check out my top 10 healthy filling foods to help you stay on track!

1. Avocado

I love avocados, on toast, in smoothies, or mashed up with some lime juice and tortilla chips. These green bad boys are great because they are high in fiber and monosaturated fat, which helps to suppress your appetite. The fat signals your brain to say ‘hey! I’m full!’. Add avocado to your meals and you won’t be feeling hungry 5 minutes later.

2. Ginger

I know, I talk about ginger a lot, but it’s so versatile which is why I love it so much? Adding ginger to a smoothie or stir fry can help you feel less hungry throughout the day.

3. Popcorn

Did you know popcorn is whole grain and full of fiber? It’s one of the best snacking options around. Skip the butter and opt for a little pink Himalayan salt instead.

4. Nuts

You can pretty much guarantee that I will eat nuts at least once a day. They are high in the good fats, antioxidants, magnesium and vitamin E. I suggest throwing a handful into a Ziploc and keeping it in your bag for when hunger strikes. (My favorite are almonds and cashews).

5. Smoothies

The key here is blend time. While smoothies do offer more fiber than a green juice (which will help keep you full) they also have an added bonus if you blend them longer. The longer you blend a smoothie, I’m talking 4-5 minutes, the more air that gets trapped in the smoothie. Because you will then be ingesting more air than normal, you trick your stomach into thinking you are fuller. Voila!

6. Caffeine

Believe me, no one is happier about this than me. Whether it’s coffee or tea, the caffeine in these drinks helps rev your metabolism but also keep you fuller longer. Crazy I know.

Yup, you read that right. Consuming 1-2 pieces of dark chocolate that is 70% cacao or higher can help slow digestion so you won’t feel like snacking. It’s all due to the high levels of stearic acid inside.

8. Legumes

Whether it’s chickpeas, lentils or beans, these guys have a low glycemic index which can help suppress carb cravings PLUS give you a dose of protein. Add to salads, soups or even bake with them!

9. Berries

Any sort of berry will do, but raspberries, in particular, are great. They pack the most fiber per punch than any other berry, meaning they will help keep you full.

10. Oatmeal

Such a great breakfast option because it’s high in fiber and will help break the fast. Get it? If you want an added boost, add some chia seeds or flax seed powder and you will be good to go.
