Staying balanced is hard, especially when you’re busy. You are running around, sometimes frantic, and there never seems to be enough hours in the day. All this busyness can take its toll leaving you feeling exhausted, burnt out and ungrounded. Luckily, I am sharing with you 5 ways to stay balanced when you’re busy so you can avoid all that. They are all simple, easy, things to add to your routine that will have a major pay off.
Meditation is one of the easiest things you can do to stay balanced. Partly because you can do it anywhere and anytime, even for just two minutes! And no matter how busy you are, you have two minutes in your day. It can be done on your commute while walking or just a quick couple of minutes at your desk. Not only will this lower your stress and anxiety, but it will allow you to have a clearer state of mind allowing you to deal with everything in your day. If you are new to meditation start with a few minutes and work your way up. There are many apps out there that will help as well, where they have different categories for focus, anxiety, sleep etc.
With breakfast, I am not saying you have to eat when you first wake up, but rather I am talking about the first meal you have in the day that breaks the fast. You want it to be nourishing and made with whole foods so that your body stays in balance. Good fuel will allow your body to run it’s best. You can’t run efficiently if you are putting good stuff into your body. Aim for your first meal to have healthy fats, protein, and fiber. This one might be obvious, but when things are busy you are likely to stay up later just to “get things done”, bad move. Chances are my sacrificing sleep you will also be sacrificing brain function tomorrow, making you less efficient and sharp at whatever you are doing. In fact, there are studies showing the effects of 5 hours of sleep or less and they aren’t good. It puts you at risk for more chronic disease and lowers your immunity. This is one of my favorite, low-cost things to add to your routine. Not only is it palatable for pretty much everyone (unlike ginger), but it is herbal so it is a great way to stay hydrated. Peppermint tea is great for memory, headaches, digestion, muscle pain, weight loss, and even your immune system. So it is a one-stop shop.
Engage in small acts of self-care
If you are busy, chances are you don’t have a full day to devote to self-care, that doesn’t mean that you should go without it though. Engaging in small practices of self-care every day add up and can help you feel more balanced, ready to tackle the day. This can be something as small as making your perfect cup of coffee, calling a friend on your commute or when doing tasks like cleaning, or taking a moment to say a couple affirmations in the mirror before you start your day.
